Helpful Hint: How to Repair Drywall - The Home Depot
We all have walls in our home that have suffered more than an a little damage. It's not uncommon to have nail holes from hanging pictures, scratches from wear and tare, and even damage from the recent earthquake or hurricane. Below you will find a great "How To" video from Home Depot to easily and inexpensively repair the walls in your home.
Would You Attend a Drive In Church Service?
The church is the people... right? The building doesn't really matter, or does it? That is what we say to ourselves, when in reality it is nice to have a pew to sit in and a pulpit to look at. Well this church in Texas has chosen to eliminate all of that and you can literally drive in church. That's right! You can pull up, just as you would at a drive in movie, and enjoy the service right in your car. So with the world and church continually changing, would you be open to attending a drive in church service? Take a look at the article and video clip below and tell us your thoughts.
Texas pastor opens drive-in churchA pastor outside Dallas has launched a drive-in church that operates along the same lines as a drive-in movie theater: Congregants stay in their vehicles and tune in to the sermon on their car radios. Sanctuary Under the Sky, which meets in a high school parking lot in Lucas, Texas, is the third outdoor church launched by Pastor David Ray, according to CNN Dallas/Fort Worth affiliate WFAA. Ray, a Presbyterian, told WFAA that he's trying to reach the unchurched and that he believes Jesus would approve of his approach. "I think he would like it. His stuff was outdoors," Ray said. "A lot of trouble he had was indoors." One congregant who attended the service on Sunday told WFAA that she's not a fan of mega-churches, preferring to worship alone. |

Hurricane Irene is a Blessing says Glenn Beck
By Dan Gilgoff, CNN.com Religion Editor
Conservative radio host Glenn Beck told listeners Friday that Hurricane Irene, the Category 1 storm that’s working its deadly way up the Eastern Seaboard, is “a blessing from God.”
Beck has long urged his fans to stockpile food in their homes in anticipation of a global food disruption. He said Irene should be construed as a divine warning for those who have ignored that advice.
Beck has long urged his fans to stockpile food in their homes in anticipation of a global food disruption. He said Irene should be construed as a divine warning for those who have ignored that advice.
Here’s Beck on his show Friday:
How many warnings do you think you’re going to get, and how many warnings do you deserve? This hurricane that is coming thorough the East Coast, for anyone who’s in the East Coast and has been listening to me say ‘Food storage!’ ‘Be prepared!’
If you’ve waited, this hurricane is a blessing. It is a blessing. It is God reminding you — as was the earthquake last week — it’s God reminding you you’re not in control. Things can happen. Be prepared and be someone who can help others so when disaster strikes, God forbid, you’re not panicking.
The Washington Post reports that in encouraging home stockpiling, Beck, a convert to Mormonism, is echoing Mormon church teaching. The church encourages members to build home storehouses of food that could last for at least three months.
According to a website run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name of the Mormon church:
According to a website run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name of the Mormon church:
Our Heavenly Father created this beautiful earth, with all its abundance, for our benefit and use. His purpose is to provide for our needs as we walk in faith and obedience. He has lovingly commanded us to “prepare every needful thing”… so that, should adversity come, we can care for ourselves and our neighbors and support bishops as they care for others.
The site includes a food storage calculator. To build a three-month supply of food for a family of four, the calculator recommends 300 pounds of “wheat, white rice, corn and other grains” and 60 pounds of “dry beans and other legumes.”
The Post notes that food storage is one pillar of the Mormon emphasis on self-reliance.
Let us know what you think: Is this a blessing in disguise from God to remind us to get it together?
Daily Bread Bible Verse - Failure to Discipline
We live in the woods, so we get very little prolonged sunlight in the summer. But we love fresh tomatoes, so I decided to try growing them in pots set in a few sunny spots.
The plants started to grow right away and really fast. I was thrilled—until I realized that their fast growth was due to their efforts to reach out to the limited sunlight. By the time I figured out what was happening, the vines were too heavy to support themselves. I found some stakes, lifted the vines carefully, and fastened them in an upright position. Even though I tried to be gentle, one of the twisted vines broke when I tried to straighten it.
This reminded me that discipline must begin before character is permanently bent and twisted.
Eli the priest had two sons whom he failed to discipline. When their wickedness got so bad that he could no longer ignore it, he tried gentle rebuke (1 Sam. 2:24-25). But it was too late, and God announced the dire consequences: “I will judge [Eli’s] house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them” (3:13).
Being straightened out is painful, but being left crooked will ultimately hurt even more.
Lord, even though it’s painful, we’re thankful thatYou, in love, discipline us as Your children.Help us to respond with repentance and obedienceto Your ways. Amen.
God’s love confronts and corrects.

Helpful Hint: How To Get Back Into School Routine
How To Get Back Into School Routine
Written by Oretha Winston on August 24, 2011 9:00 am
Sadly, summer is coming to an end and Fall semester is right around the bend. Relaxing afternoons spent wallowing in the pool will soon be replaced by long nights soaking up knowledge in the library.
This drastic change happens quickly, and if you don’t take a few days to let your body and mind adjust, you will find yourself stuck at the starting line when the school year has already taken off. Here are 5 tips to help get you back into school mode.
1. Start a Routine
When you start doing a few things on a daily basis, they soon become second nature. To prepare yourself for school, it wouldn’t hurt to get yourself in the habit of doing the things that you would normally do on school days. This might include things like waking up at a decent time, showering, eating breakfast, etc. The whole idea behind this concept is to get yourself back into the habit of doing things in a particular way. (Sidenote: I personally have been hating routines lately and have been trying to mix things up a lot lately. So, do what works best for you).2. Wake Up Early
If you have been sleeping until noon all summer and have an 8 am class scheduled for the fall, you’re going to have a hard time waking up on time unless you start preparing now. This is why it is very important to start gradually waking up earlier and earlier everyday. By doing this, you will avoid shocking your system on those first few days of class. This will also prevent you from being groggy and falling asleep during you first 8 am class.3. Do a Little Scheduling
It’s inevitable, when school is in session we are stuck to a pretty tight schedule. This is a sharp contrast to the bountiful free time and laid back atmosphere that dominates summer break. To get yourself prepared for the demanding schedule of an 18 hour semester you should start to structure your day a little. Scheduling something like 2 hours a day to work on a personal project for example, will help you get used to having a schedule again.4. Have Some Quiet Time
There is nothing better than taking some time out of your day to be alone with your mind. Whether you take 10 minutes out of your day or three hours, this much needed time alone will help your mind become more focused. We are constantly filling our brains with noise, so giving it a little break each day can work wonders. This is a great time to get your thoughts organized and figure out what else needs to be done in preparation for school.5. Get Organized
There is no worse way to start the school year than having both your supplies and mind in a jumble. Dedicate some time to organize both your thoughts and your gear for school.Could you Forgive your Pastor for Stealing from You?
WATCH: Police Say Pastor Sandy McGriff Was Caught Breaking Into Member's House to Steal Fur, etc.
December 27, 2010 3:59 PM
Never has Serita Agnew's faith been so shaken.
Police told her that the person who stole fur coats and laptop computers from her home was not a random criminal... but her trusted pastor.
The alleged crime took place on Christmas Eve.
"I'm still having a hard time," Agnew said. "I don't know what it was about."
She said her pastor, Sandy McGriff, called her on Christmas Eve, shortly before the break-in. A short time later, police said a neighbor spotted the 52-year-old preacher breaking a window and climbing in.
Arriving officers said they caught McGriff loading her car with Agnew's furs and purses -- and then resisted arrest.
"It's not like she needed them; she didn't need them, she has fabulous things," Agnew said.
McGriff has been preaching for years; she's part of a well-known spiritual family in South Dallas. She recently began holding services in a small chapel in the back of her husband's furniture store.
"My biggest mistake was going through... going through the window," McGriff told WFAA, KENS 5's sister station, explaining that she was checking on Agnew on Christmas Eve and she caught two men breaking in.

What To Do During Earthquake/ 5.9M Quake Rocks Virginia East Coast USA
What to Do During an Earthquake
Stay as safe as possible during an earthquake. Be aware that some earthquakes are actually foreshocks and a larger earthquake might occur. Minimize your movements to a few steps to a nearby safe place and if you are indoors, stay there until the shaking has stopped and you are sure exiting is safe.
If indoors
- DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
- Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
- Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes. Hold on and protect your head with a pillow, unless you are under a heavy light fixture that could fall. In that case, move to the nearest safe place.
- Use a doorway for shelter only if it is in close proximity to you and if you know it is a strongly supported, loadbearing doorway.
- Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
- Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on.
- DO NOT use the elevators.
If outdoors
- Stay there.
- Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
- Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits and alongside exterior walls. Many of the 120 fatalities from the 1933 Long Beach earthquake occurred when people ran outside of buildings only to be killed by falling debris from collapsing walls. Ground movement during an earthquake is seldom the direct cause of death or injury. Most earthquake-related casualties result from collapsing walls, flying glass, and falling objects.
If in a moving vehicle
- Stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires.
- Proceed cautiously once the earthquake has stopped. Avoid roads, bridges, or ramps that might have been damaged by the earthquake.
If trapped under debris
- Do not light a match.
- Do not move about or kick up dust.
- Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing.
- Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can locate you. Use a whistle if one is available. Shout only as a last resort. Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.

7 Foods Men Should Eat Weekly
posted by mybrotha.com
Eating healthy is like going to work -- you have to do it everyday whether you like it or not.
When you consume nutrient-rich foods, your body repays you with a healthier heart, increased energy, and the ability to fight off numerous illnesses. We have put together a list of nutritional foods that are not only very tasty, but also some of the world's healthiest. These are some of the best foods men can pick up at the local grocer:
Bananas - A naturally sweet fruit that can be harvested year around. One of our best sources of potassium and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), bananas may help prevent high blood pressure and may protect against type 2 diabetes. They can also help improve your body's ability to absorb calcium, promoting bone health.
When choosing bananas at your grocer, pick ones that are firm, but not too hard. They should be bright in color and free from bruises or scarring. Despite their rugged appearance, bananas are delicate and will often bruise and scar quickly. Some other foods high in potassium like bananas include broccoli, soybeans potatoes, avocados, apricots, pomegranates, and turnips.
Collard Greens - High in vitamins K, A, and C, collard greens are one of the most popular and most healthy Southern vegetable traditions. This leafy green offers several nutrients as part of the %DV serving you should get. These include manganese, folate, calcium, fiber, potassium, vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acides, and zinc.
Collards are an excellent source of vitamin A and zinc, two nutrients that can significantly improve our immune system function. Collard greens are also high in folate and a very good source of vitamin B6, both of which are needed to maintain low levels of homocysteine - a chemical compound that could present a cardiovascular risk in high levels. When buying collards, look for firm, unwilted leaves that have a deep green color. Yellow or brown leaves show signs of nutrient loss.
Wheat and Bran - Unless you live on a wheat farm in Kansas, your best source for this valuable grain is breads, pasta, crackers, and cereals. In its most natural unrefined state, wheat contains important nutrients. To receive the full benefit from wheat, it is important to choose wheat products made from whole wheat flour rather than those that are refined. Be sure to select 100% whole wheat products. These foods retain the bran and the germ, a very good source of dietary fiber and manganese.
Eating foods high in insoluble fiber, such as whole wheat or bran cereals and breads -- substantially lowers the risk for Type 2 Diabetes and may help reduce the risk of other health issues like gallstones. Studies also show that eating whole grains such as whole wheat, has been linked to protection against atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, and diabetes.
Cabbage - Cabbage is a worldwide staple vegetable available year around. Cabbage is high in vitamins K, C, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), fiber, folate, and manganese. Research has shown that cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage lowers the risk of prostate and colorectal cancer. Choose cabbage heads that are firm with shiny, crisp, and colorful leaves. While outer leaves are green and inner leaves are whiter, they should all be free of cracks, bruises and blemishes.
According to the George Mateljan Foundation World's Healthiest Foods resource, cabbage's anti-carcinogenic glucosinolates are formed by the activity of myrosinase enzymes, which are released when cabbage is sliced or chopped. These enzymes are deplenished when cabbage is overcooked.
Salmon - We all know that fish is much better for you than steaks and pot roast. Dozens of fish and seafood dishes like salmon provide invaluable amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon contains two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) -- both of which are excellent for promoting a healthy heart by preventing erratic heart rhythms and making blood less likely to clot inside arteries. Eating salmon, as little as twice a month, may protect against ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by lack of blood supply to the brain), colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer.
Eating salmon that is either broiled or baked may reduce risk of atrial fibrillation, the most common type of heart arrhythmia. While frying salmon tastes great, it can mean less protection against atrial fibrillation and often increases the production of harmful fats.
Apples - "An apple a day..." This old statement still holds true and this versatile fruit is packed full of fiber and vitamin C. Apples contain both insoluble and soluble fiber which are critical in lowering cholesterol levels and reducing the risks for stroke and heart attack. Eating apples with their nutritional peels left on, can stabilize bowel movements and help relieve constipation. The all important peel contains concentrations of special antioxidant compounds that may assist in the prevention of a number of chronic diseases.
The fructose (natural sugars) in apples is can help keep blood sugar levels stable and also behaves like a natural sweetner -- perfect for baking or snacks.
Lima Beans - Rich in soluble fiber, protein, and iron -- lima beans can be a great complimentary vegetable for baked chicken and rice dishes. The high fiber content in these legumes prevent blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after a meal, making them an especially good choice for people with diabetes. Lima beans' rich supply of magnesium and folate contribute to good cardiovascular health, and their high protein value can act as a replacement for red meat dishes in your diet.
Sometimes called "butter beans", a cup of limas contain about 23% of the total daily value of iron men should get.

Daily Bread: Ponder Your Path
August 22, 2011 — by David C. McCasland on odb.org
A 47-year-old Austrian man gave away his entire $4.7 million fortune after concluding that his wealth and lavish spending were keeping him from real life and happiness. Karl Rabeder told the Daily Telegraph (London), “I had the feeling I was working as a slave for things I did not wish for or need. It was the biggest shock in my life when I realized how horrible, soulless, and without feeling the ‘five-star’ lifestyle is.” His money now funds charities he set up to help people in Latin America.
Proverbs 4 urges us to consider carefully our own road in life. The passage contrasts the free, unhindered path of the just with the dark, confused way of the wicked (v.19). “Let your heart retain my words; keep my commands, and live” (v.4). “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life” (v.23). “Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established” (v.26). Each verse encourages us to evaluate where we are in life.
No one wants to go through life on a selfish, heartless road. But it can happen unless we consider where we are going in life and ask the Lord for His direction. May He give us grace today to embrace His Word and follow Him with all our hearts.

First Biblically-Based Facebook Game Takes Players on Journey of Moses

Incorporating high production quality, music, graphics, effects and the newest Facebook social features while telling the story of a very important historical figure, Hexify has developed a new game, Journey of Moses, to meet a void in the market for a biblically based game. To play the game, visit: apps.facebook.com/journeyofmoses/?ref=bpr_aao.
“Weaving throughout ancient Egypt and the Middle East, the Journey of Moses is a fun, immersive adventure game, complete with complex characters, engaging quests, puzzles and mysteries,” said Brent Dusing, CEO of Hexify. “Whether you already play social games or you are interested in the story of Moses, we believe we have created a game that everyone can enjoy.”
Players will experience the many twists and turns as they explore milestones in the life of Moses – from growing up in the king’s house as an Egyptian to his exile in the wilderness. Then, after an encounter at the burning bush, Moses’ life is changed and he eventually leads the Israelites out of Pharaoh’s rule.
“We were careful to adhere to the accounts in the Bible and the overarching spirit of the story, even vetting certain aspects with theological leaders,” said Dusing.
Journey of Moses, like many other social games, provides a forum for community, entertainment and gaming with friends. The game is free to play, though as with other Facebook games, players can purchase goods along the way to help enhance their experience.
“With web-based games played on social networks drawing nearly half a billion people worldwide, we felt it was time for a biblically based game that showcases one of the greatest adventures of all time,” Dusing said.
Out of a passion for games, Dusing and Chief Technical Officer Preston Tollinger started Hexify, Inc. in 2010. Already well-known within Silicon Valley, Tollinger and Dusing quickly built a brand and credibility among the social gaming industry. The Journey of Moses is Hexify’s third Facebook adventure game.
