Pastor Mike Scruggs is all over the internet now after he put a stripper pole and bed next to his pulpit!
The Ohio pastor is all set to begin a series of sermons on sex and relationships beginning Sunday. Wait a minute, I thought they were supposed to be preaching the word….jus sayin lol.
The new sermon series called “Battle of the Sexes,” kicks off at the Light of Word Ministries in White Oak, Ohio. Scruggs also put videogames and sports equipment on one side of the pulpit, representing what men desire. On the other side, he has set up a bed with candies, teddy bears, roses and a bottle of wine to depict what women want.
Every Sunday in April, Scruggs will share sermons about what works in the bedroom, keeping intimacy alive and the need to build and maintain trust. “Right now we’re having single people having too much sex and married people not having enough sex,” he said.
The pastor will also encourage married couples in the church to take the “Sexperiment,” based on the book, Sexperiment: 7 Days to Lasting Intimacy with Your Spouse, by Texas-based Pastor Ed Young, calling on married couples to have sex for seven straight days to see “amazing results” lasting far beyond the week.
“Who better than the church to really bring clarity to this…. what I call this holy concept that has been ordained by God,” fellow Pastor Ennis Tait was quoted as saying.
On Friday, Pastor Scruggs held a pre-kickoff service for singles which drew a packed house. “We try to make it relevant, straightforward. We don’t sugarcoat anything. We talk about sex. We talk about drugs. We talk about faith. We talk about relationships… things that people are dealing with on a day-to-day basis.”
Scruggs admits some could get offended by his message. “We push the envelope, that’s true,” he said. “Don’t take it out of context. Some people say, ‘He’s going to hell. He’s wrong.’ We want to talk about it. We don’t want them to guess at it, assume it’s wrong. It’s right. We want to talk about it.”
What do you think, did the pastor go too far or is he on point?
