What Is Easter Monday?

posted by elev8.com

Easter Monday is the day that directly follows  Easter Sunday. Liturgically, for many Christians it is the day on which community is marked as scripture is read that reflects the Apostles embracing the Resurrection.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce the news to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them.
They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee,  and there they will see me.”
(Matthew 28:8-15)
Egg rolling races are held in the United States. There is a big race held on the lawn of the White House in Washington DC on Easter Monday. Sometimes even the President takes part in the “White House Easter Egg Roll”, which was hosted by the First Lady in 2007. Eggs are rolled down a hill or slope and there is a variety of activities, as well as food and entertainment, for families.
Over time it has become in Christian communities a day to enjoy the family and venture outside to do things together. Many Christians around the world celebrate Easter Monday as a day of rest, particularly in countries where the day is a public holiday. It is a day for many to enjoy the time outdoors in countries such as Australia and Canada.  Easter parades occur in some parts of the world on Easter Monday.  In many communities this has become a day of gardening. Many public museums and zoos are hosting family days today.
If you are out enjoying an event let us know. Post it in the comments we want to hear.
