The Maryland Transportation Authority have released the specifics on the toll hikes Maryland drivers will have to pay.
The MTA have released which location and how much money drivers would have to pay. The proposals include raising the toll on the Bay Bridge. The toll for the Bay Bridge will double from $2.50 to $5. The increase will take effect October 30th. Then, the toll would increase yet again on January 1st of 2013 to $8.
Transportation officials say the Key bridge, Harbor Tunnels, and Fort McHenry tolls would go from $2 to $3 on October 1st, then jump to $4 on January 1st, 2013.
The toll hikes are part of a $70 million revenue raising proposal, money transportation officials say they need to maintain roads and pay the rising costs of debt service. With that being said, how much is too much for motorists to pay? What is a fair price? Other states have reported much higher tolls than Maryland is used to.With gas prices constantly fluctuating, adding more to tolls could result in alternative travel plans. Many motorists are considering taking the roads around tolls, which would defeat the proposed hike in the first place. Also people are suggesting less traveling which can effect tourists attractions.
So tell us how you feel about this proposal... How much would you pay to cross the Maryland tolls? Take a look at the clip below and share your comments.
