Leave My Money Alone! Why Is Tithing Such A Touchy Subject?

“Lord, please don’t talk about that!”  

So many times when tithing comes up in a sermon, the members buckle and the tone in the building suggests that all the church talks about is money.  In a time when the church is asked to do more and more for the members, from providing day care to acting as a single ministry meeting place, why are members uncomfortable with following the part of God’s Word that commands us to give 10 percent back?  Where do you think the money is going and why does the subject fire up such fodder?
